Notes on the Wine

Dense on the nose with huckleberry jam, cherry blossom, leather and vanilla, the palate is replete with blackberry and Italian plum with a savory, black tea finish.

Fruit from Five Mountain is fermented in small, temperature controlled steel tanks, hand punched down twice daily, and barreled in French oak barrels. After 10 months of aging, only the barrels that are most representative of the Five Mountain profile are carefully blended to create a rich, earthy Oregon Pinot Noir.

Notes on the Producer

Elk Cove Vineyards is one of Oregon's oldest and most respected wine producers. Established in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell on a secluded property in North Willamette Valley, they only produce Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Riesling.
The first vineyards were planted on steep south facing slopes of the Chehelam Mountains to Willakenzie silty loam and Laurelwood red-shot volcanic soils. The 600 acre, sustainably farmed estate is divided into four major parcels: La Boheme, Roosevelt, Mount Richmond and Five Mountain Vineyard.
Winemaker Adam Campbell continues the family tradition of noninterventionist winemaking through proper site selection, meticulous vine management and low yields. He hand selects only the finest French oak barrels – three year old, air dried Burgundian coopered barrels, with medium toast and tight grain. The Pinot Noirs are racked by gravity from the fermentors to French oak barrels in the cellar.
