Notes on the Wine
Les Argiles d’Orto Vins Negre is a red wine from the D.O Monstant produced by the Orto Vins winery. This wine is a blend of 2 different grape varieties: Grenache (90%) and Samsó (10%).
The grapes used to make Les Argiles d’Orto Vins Negre comes from old vines, situated near the town of El Masroig. The vineyards ae home to clay soils, which gives the wine its name as Argila (Les Argiles) is the word for clay in Catalan. The vineyards are cultivated organically
Once the grapes have been harvested, they are transported to the winery where the winemaking process begins. Firstly, the grapes are destemmed. The juice obtained then undergoes a long maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation which is carried out in stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for 3 months in the same tanks, before being bottled and placed onto the market.

Orto Vins is a relatively young viticultural project in the lands of Montsant. They make unique wines following biodynamic agriculture, with utmost respect for the vineyard and the land. Under quite a personal philosophy of the understanding of wine and viticulture, their wines offer the seal of identity of the area where they come from. The combination of the climate, the land and small plots with local varieties, are the identity traits of Orto Vins, which shape the particular personality of all its wines.
