Notes on the Wine

Crafted from a premium selected vineyard parcel in the Valley of Itata. The grapes grown granite base with small percentage of clay reveal a true expression of terroir with a breathtaking intensity and elegance. Yellow in color with golden edges. The intense aromas are of white flowers, spices, and ripe fruit. The wine has big body, and lots of character and complexity.

The juice was fermented with the skins in a concrete tank, stay together for 6 months and then without the skins for 4 months in old french barrels. Minimal intervention, like the old men used to make wine, native yeast and no filtration.

This wine is a collaboration between two winemakers – Julio Bouchon of Chile and David Nieuwoudt of South Africa. Longaví, meaning ‘snake’s head’, draws on the spirit and legends of two continents. The vine wreath depicted in the logo, denotes the ourobos, an ancient African symbol representing nature’s eternal cycle of renewal. The condor soaring high above the Andes represents freedom and the search for perfection. This sacred bird is believed to be man’s messenger to the gods. Longaví wines will certainly please both man and the gods!

Notes on the Producer

Glup is a collaboration between two friends from different continents who teamed up during 2012 - Chilean producer Julio Bouchon and South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt. In 2017, Glup’s first vintage was produced.

Julio - a descendent of a French wine pioneer who settled in Chile in 1887- is a journalist by profession and a winemaker at heart. He oversees client relations and participates in wine tastings and blends decisions. Julio enjoys expressing his passion for the great outdoors through the wine he creates. The prestigious Decanter magazine (UK) acknowledged Julio among the 10 top winemakers of South America.

David -the owner of Cederberg, one of South Africa’s most prestigious wineries - completed his studies at the Elsenburg Agricultural College of South Africa. The wines produced by his vineyard Cederberg Private Cellar –with five generations and counting- have been recognized repeatedly by Decanter and other publications.
