Region: Oregon - Willamette Valley
Grapes: Gamay
Alcohol: 12.5%
Notes on the Wine
A nice and juicy Gamay with flavors of cranberry, balsamic, and pepper. There is an earthy taste to this wine with a tangy acidity that is almost effervescent.
Notes on the Producer
Inspired by the wines of the Loire Valley and vignerons like Didier Barouillet of Clos Roche Blanche (who was an over-the-phone consultant on the project), Thierry Puzelat, and Marc Ollivier of Domaine de la Pépière, Dana and Scott Frank set out to turn Oregon's "Pinotstocracy" on it's head. Semi-carbonic maceration, minimal punchdowns, no racking, and aging in old barrique for 10 months before finishing in tank leaves us with a super fresh Gamay, toping out at 11.5%. Oh, and we hear there is a Melon de Bourgogne in the wings as well!
