Grapes: Shiraz
Alcohol: 16%
Notes on the Wine
This alluring and unashamedly bold Shiraz has hints of spiced plums, blackberry jam and cherry all at the fore and finishes with coffee cream, licorice and vanilla. Full bodied with vibrant berry fruit characteristics, yet elegant with restrained tannins, resulting in a soft mouthfeel. Consistently impressive and seriously good, this wine is not short of character.
Notes on the Producer
Our Winery is located in McLaren Vale about 45 minutes outside Adelaide. Our vineyard is 116 acres of what we believe to be absolute prime McLaren Vale vineyards and is on the same region of land as some of McLaren Vale's most famous wines including D'Arenburg Dead Arm, Kay’s Block Six Shiraz, Chapel Hill Reserve Shiraz, Mollydooker Carnival of Love, and Mollydooker Velvet Glove. The vineyard is currently just under 50% Shiraz and the rest is made up of Cabernet, Merlot, Semillon and Chardonnay (the whites will get grafted to Shiraz as soon as we possibly can).
Our amazing growers and their commitment to working hand in hand with Leigh (Sparky's Dad) and our vineyard team to adhere to the Marquis Vineyard Watering Programme™ is what makes Mollydooker wines possible!
The winery has a 1500 tonne commercial license, but we expect to be operating that at about two thirds capacity by processing approximately 1000 tonnes for Mollydooker which will produce our targeted 70,000 cases. The winery is currently set up to process small individual batches of grapes, and has its own bottling line and massive storage areas for both oak barrels as well as bottles of wine.
As an amazing coincidence (or maybe it is a part of the plan) if you leave Sarah's and my house in Adelaide the only turns that you make in order to get to the winery are six Mollydooker or left-handed turns! We are looking forward to driving this road and making these turns together.
