Notes on the Wine
This wine has a deep ruby color, a big sweet kiss of licorice, kirsch liqueur and darker currants, cherry red with violet nuances. Has a ripe fruit nose with floral tones. It is medium-bodied, refreshing, exuberant and fruity, pure and lusty spiciness and with a complex and long aftertaste.
Notes on the Producer
Founded in 1958 in the appellation of Campo de Borja, Borsao owns 3,706 acres of vineyards planted at elevations of 1,300-2,300 ft. Borsao represents nearly 35% of the total acres planted in the D.O. The soils vary with red clay and red slate at the higher elevations to limestone and gravel at lower elevations. The area is well known for old vine Grenache, but there is also Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah planted as well as a few white varietals.
Bodegas Borsao’s flagship offering is Tres Picos, made with 100% Grenache from yields of less than two tons of fruit per acre planted at a 2000 foot plus altitude on the hillsides of the Moncayo Mountains. The harvest is all done by hand, and the wine is aged in a combination of stainless steel and French oak for ten months prior to bottling.
