Notes on the Wine

An elegant blend of Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo, the sandy soild of Roero gives the wine finessa and at a younger age. The red bery fruit flavors and bright and acidity gives the wines a delicious nervy tension. Hand harvested off younger vines from their organically farmed nine hectare estate. A natural fermentation in stainless steel tanks of 30 and 50hl. A small percentage of carbonic maceration to accentuate the primary fruit character. Aged for about 8 months in steel. Unfined, unfiltered and very low SO2 to ensure stability. The name Bocin Servaj means ‘wild veal’. Their grandfather used to tell the story of this wild animal that lived under the tower in the village to their children. It is a playful part of their history, which aligns with the fanciful, fresh, playful nature of the wine!

Notes on the Producer

This nine hectare organically farmed estate has been around since the mid-1700s and is in its fifth generation. The farm is truly a family affair, with all members doing their part. It is increasingly unusual to find a thriving, multi-generational farm still involved in polyculture. Roero is a lesser known region, located on sandy hills on the left side of the Tanaro River. Santo Stefano in Roero is northwest of Alba. It is well known for Arneis, and the sandier soils produce elegant examples of Nebbiolo that are approachable earlier. They are no less refined than neighboring Barolo and Barbaresco and represent an excellent value. The wines standout in the Roero for their lack of intervention and manipulation, which show in their purity and elegance.
