Notes on the Producer

Established by Antonio Garofoli in 1871, the Garofoli estate is the oldest wine company in the Marche, Italy. His son Gioacchino continued his father's work and founded Gioacchino Garofoli in 1901. He was succeeded by his sons, Dante and Franco, and they were both succeeded by Franco’s sons, Carlo and Gianfranco. In 2005, the family’s 5th generation began working at the winery, Carlo’s daughter, Beatrice and Gianfranco’s daughter and son, Caterina and Gianluca,

The 123 acre estate is planted on limestone, clay and sand based soils of medium consistency in the comunes of Montecarotto (at Cupo delle Larne), Ancona (at Paterno and Piancarda) and Castelfidardo (at Acquaviva). The wines are made from estate grown grapes and those purchased from respected local growers.

The whites are produced at Serra de Conti; the reds and the sparkling at Castelfidardo. The whites are matured in underground or temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The reds are aged in Slavonian oak casks or French oak barrels. Garofoli was among the first in Marche to use stainless steel tanks for fermentation and barriques for aging.
