Notes on the Wine

Gianni’s Barbera d’Asti Bosco Donne is made from 100% Barbera, fermented in stainless steel to preserve its classic varietal character. In the glass, the wine is deep purple in color with a garnet rim. The nose is wonderfully aromatic with notes of rose, blackberries and black cherries dusted with exotic baking spices. The complexity of the aromas is beguiling: after one sniff, you can't help but keep your nose in the glass to appreciate all that is going on. The palate is marvelously expressive, full of super-charged, juicy fruits and loads of refreshment; the bright acidity is deftly balanced by a soft mouthfeel, and then there's that classic Asti finish: long, mineral and full of energy. The versatility of this Barbera with food is one of its greatest strengths: enjoy with mushroom dishes, roasted or grilled fish, sausage ragú, pork chops, marinated London Broil, pasta in red sauce... just about anything you can put on the table!

Notes on the Producer

The Gianni Doglia estate is in its third generation of family leadership under Gianni and his sister, Paola. The estate is small — only 10 hectares — and this is by design: keeping the operation small allows Gianni to pay special attention to all aspects of the winemaking process, and in this way express the essence of these unique vineyards. Out of respect for the land and their family's future, Gianni and Paola practice sustainable viticulture: chemical fertilizers or pesticides are not used here, in order to promote the greatest diversity of flora and fauna. In addition, they manage and maintain small wooded areas between the vineyards to increase the local wildlife population. They are members of The Green Experience, a sustainability initiative launched by producers in Piedmont that promotes natural agricultural techniques, conservation of the environment and encouragement of biodiversity. All of Gianni's hard work has paid off with his recognition as Gambera Rosso's "Grower of the Year" in 2022!
