Region: California - Russian River Valley

Grapes: Pinot Noir

Alcohol: 14%

Notes on the Wine

The primary goal in bottling this wine is to produce a pinot noir that speaks of the terroir of the Russian River Valley as a whole and best reflects the character of the vintage. The one constant with this wine each year is that it consists of a blend of each of our vineyard designates and nothing else. Our intent is to craft a wine that marries all of the best elements of the vineyards and the vintage. A little lighter in color than the fairly dark and lush 2016, it also has a bit higher acidity. All of the usual C3 elements are present however, including a potpourri of red fruits, flowers and a bit of forest floor.

Notes on the Producer

Although our first vintage was in 1968, Joseph Swan Vineyards is still young at heart. The passion and curiosity that Joe Swan brought to his craft are still evident in the winery today. Located in the heart of the famed Russian River Valley, now often proclaimed ground zero for great pinot noir, we embrace the artisanal spirit that defines this amazing growing region. The winery's roots were in old vine zinfandel and estate chardonnay and pinot noir. Today, we continue to embrace those wines but also, in recognition of the amazing quality and personality grapes grown by talented and dedicated winegrowers can achieve in this wonderful region, we have added a number of other wines to our portfolio. Each of our wines is a unique expression of its terroir and the vintage. While all carry the hallmark winery signature of balance and personality, they span a broad range of aromas, flavors and textures. As our winemaker often says, “the journey is often more exciting than the destination”.
