Notes on the Wine
The Estate Riesling is a typical elegant Mosel Riesling with flavours of citrus and peach in combination with a nice minerality. The fresh and elegant acidity shows a perfect balance to the sweetness.
Notes on the Producer
The history of Monchhof (the Monks House) dates back to 1177; supported by a document signed by Pope Alexander III showing the Cistercian Abbey Himmerod as having vineyards in Urzig, Germany. In 1804, the estate was purchased by the Eymael family and it is currently run by owner and winemaker Robert Eymael.
The vineyards are located in the Urziger Wurzgarten, Erdener Treppchen, and Erdener Pralat. The very steep Urziger Wurzgarten Vineyard is planted on red volcanic and slate soil which lends spicy aromas and tropical fruit flavors. Erdener Treppchen Vineyardis planted on red slate and iron which highlight the mineral finish and the south facing Erdener Pralat Vineyard planted on red slate soil produces wines with depth and concentration.
