Notes on the Wine

Puramun means “harvest” in Mendoza's indigenous Mapuche language. Each Puramun is a new challenge. Nothing is the same, everything changes: the climate, the soil, the grapes, and even ourselves. Year after year we trek a new road, a labyrinth of grapevines that express through their precious fruit our devotion to the Valle de Uco terroir.

Notes on the Producer

Jose "Pepe" Galante is widely considered one of the most important winemakers in Argentina's history. As chief winemaker at Catena Zapata from 1976 until 2010, he was the pioneer of our winemaking revolution that is the reason why many people knows him as the "father of modern winemaking" in Argentina. Pepe showed the world that Argentina could make world-class wines. Pepe's travels throughout the United States, Spain and France taught him techniques and gave him the vision to apply to his own terroir.

Along the way, Pepe taught and mentored young winemakers who are now stepping up to spread this knowledge. Puramun is Pepe's first-ever personal project and shared with his family.

Pepe believes that the Valle de Uco is Argentina's best terroir to produce high quality wines. Each bottle of Puramun expresses our admiration for the Valle de Uco, a place that surprises with its diversity of soil, climate, and thermal amplitude. Pepe picks grapes from different places along the Valle de Uco, that's the reason why Puramun is the result of different smaller terroirs that ends up in a complex wine. Puramun is a faithful expression of the Valle de Uco, and our tribute to it.
