Notes on the Wine
The 2021 A to Z Wineworks Oregon Chardonnay leads with an air of tropical sweetness. Other aromas emerge as the wine opens: apple, lemongrass, cut hay, honey, flint and mint. The compelling palate has apple, linalool, and citric notes with a round, ripe, mid-palate fullness typical of Oregon chardonnay and a mouthfeel that is smooth yet zippy on the sides and tangy on the finish. The moderate alcohol and restrained acidity make for a fresh, crisp wine with a savory pear and apple finish. The 2021 A to Z Wineworks Oregon Chardonnay is an exciting sipper for any occasion.
Notes on the Producer
A to Z Wineworks was started in 2002 by Oregon wine industry veterans: Deb Hatcher (Eyrie), Bill Hatcher (Domaine Drouhin Oregon), Sam Tannahill (Archery Summit) and Cheryl Francis (Chehalem). The two couples worked in the Hatcher's kitchen to build the original blend honored by Food & Wine magazine as the Best American Pinot Noir under $20. Recognition for A to Z wines as offering dependable quality for great value continues today and A to Z is the top-selling Oregon wine brand.
In 2006, the group welcomed another Oregon wine veteran, Michael Davies, as winemaker, and partnered with Gregg Popovich (Coach of the San Antonio Spurs) to buy REX HILL Vineyards and Winery (established in 1982). A to Z has more collective Oregon winemaking experience than any other winery, experience that can make a difference in difficult vintages to stay true to the Essence of Oregon®.
A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir has twice been named to Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of the year; A to Z Oregon Pinot Gris is a perennial Best Buy; and A to Z Oregon Chardonnay is America's Best-Selling Oregon Chardonnay. Rose, Rose Bubbles, Riesling and a small selection of the best of the vintage, The Essence of Oregon Pinot Noir, round out the portfolio.
In May 2014, A to Z Wineworks certified as a B Corp subsequently being named as a Best for the World B Corp four years in a row.
