Notes on the Wine

An elegant crimson red wine with subtle black tea and tobacco aromas on the nose. Delicate and very velvety on the palate, a rounded finish, very flattering and elegant.

Notes on the Producer

Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz, the epitome of Viennese Heurigen culture, has a centuries-old tradition crafting the finest Viennese wines in Heiligenstadt since 1683.

The vineyards are situated entirely within the city boundaries of Vienna, in the 17th and 19th districts.

The history of the winery goes back as far as 1683. In 1817, Ludwig van Beethoven resided in this romantic suburban house, which is protected as a historic monument. During his time in Heiligenstadt, he worked on his 9th symphony.

Franz Mayer was the face of modern viticulture. It is not without reason that he is still referred to as the doyen of Viennese viticulture.

Hans Schmid, owner and visionary, who has always been fascinated by the unique and picturesque wine landscape of Vienna. His aim to lead the winery back to the top of Austrian viticulture was achieved within a few years together with the capable and young team around managing director Gerhard J. Lobner. Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz is considered today as the figurehead of Viennese viticulture, attracting attention on a national and international scale with its innovative spirit.
